Best Osaka and Kansai theme parks
From Universal Studios Japan to anime worlds on Awaji Island and a samurai film set in Kyoto — the best family theme parks across Osaka and the wider Kansai region.
Start with the big one
Universal Studios Japan is the anchor of any Kansai theme-park plan — the Harry Potter, Minion, Jurassic Park and Super Nintendo World areas all sit under one ticket in Osaka. It's the region's must-do for primary kids and teens, and worth a full, well-planned day. Remember Super Nintendo World is an area inside USJ, not a separate park.
But Kansai has far more than Universal, and some of it suits younger children better. Check each park page for current ticket details.
Around Osaka
For a relaxed, local-feeling day, Hirakata Park is a long-running Osaka favourite with a good spread of rides for toddlers through to teens and far smaller crowds than USJ. Indoors, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Osaka is a compact, brick-filled outing pitched at younger kids, and Kids Plaza Osaka is a hands-on play-and-learn museum that's brilliant for toddlers and early primary.
These make excellent second days when the family needs something gentler after a big Universal outing.
- Hirakata Park — varied rides, family-friendly, quieter than USJ.
- LEGOLAND Discovery Center Osaka — indoor, ideal for under-tens.
- Kids Plaza Osaka — interactive play museum for the littlest ones.
Wider Kansai day trips
It's worth going further afield. On Awaji Island, Nijigen no Mori turns a forest park into anime worlds — Naruto, Godzilla and Crayon Shin-chan among them — with walk-through attractions and zip-lines. In Kyoto, Toei Kyoto Studio Park is a working period-film set where kids can meet samurai and ninja, a nice change of pace from rides.
For animal-and-coaster combos, Himeji Central Park pairs a safari with a proper amusement park, and the Kobe Anpanman Children's Museum & Mall is a sure thing for toddlers who love the character.

Start planning →Common questions
- If we only have time for one Kansai park, which should it be?
- For primary kids and teens, Universal Studios Japan is the standout and the one most families build the trip around. For toddler-led families, a gentler pick like Hirakata Park or the Kobe Anpanman museum may actually be a happier day.
- Is Super Nintendo World a separate Osaka park?
- No — it's an area inside Universal Studios Japan, on the same ticket and through the same gate. Entry to the area is managed with timed-entry tickets or an Express Pass on busy days.
- What's good for a family with mixed-age kids?
- Hirakata Park handles a wide age range well, and Himeji Central Park combines a safari with rides so there's something for both little ones and thrill-seekers. Both are calmer alternatives to a full Universal day.
