Showa Kinen Park (Showa Memorial Park)

国営昭和記念公園

Tachikawa · near Nishi-Tachikawa Station / Tachikawa Station

A massive 165+ hectare national park in Tachikawa built for outdoor family fun: ~14km of cycling paths with rental bikes (including kids'), the 'Children's Forest' playground with the giant 'Sea of Clouds' bouncing dome, huge wooden play structures, seasonal flower fields, a boating pond and a summer water-play area.

Why children love it: The enormous bouncy dome, giant play structures, easy family cycling on car-free paths, and space to roam for hours.

Honest drawbacks: Far west of central Tokyo (~35-45 min from Shinjuku); so large that seeing it all needs a full day or bikes; the fun play/cycle zones are inside the paid area.
