Ghibli Museum, Mitaka

三鷹の森ジブリ美術館

Inokashira Park (west garden) · near Mitaka Station (JR Chuo Line) — community 'Ghibli' bus ~5 min, or ~15 min walk along Tamagawa Josui; also reachable from Kichijoji Station ~15 min walk through Inokashira Park (15 min walk)

The Miyazaki-designed museum of Studio Ghibli — a labyrinth of stained glass, spiral staircases and animation-history rooms. Small and intimate; the appeal is atmosphere and hidden details rather than rides.

Why children love it: The Catbus soft-play (for kids up to elementary), the giant rooftop Robot Soldier, a real straw-hat Totoro ticket booth, and exclusive short Ghibli films shown nowhere else.
