A charming little single-track railway that trundles for about 10 km between Kamakura and Fujisawa, running so close to houses and along the coast that it feels like a toy tram. Famous seaside stretch near Kamakurakokomae with ocean and, on clear days, Mount Fuji views.
Why children love it: Small vintage-style green trains, a fun rattling ride squeezing between houses, and the postcard sea views. Easy hop-on-hop-off for beaches, the Great Buddha and Enoshima aquarium.
Honest drawbacks: Very crowded on weekends and holidays (long queues at Kamakura); trains are short so seats fill fast; it is a day trip out of Tokyo.
